Border crossings within Whatcom County exist to the north of Lynden as well as Sumas, Point Roberts, and two in Blaine (one for cars, one for trucks). Hours vary per station. Crossings at Blaine and Sumas are open 24 hours a day. Lynden's station is open from 8 a.m. until 12 midnight. For those crossing, especially since Sept. 11, 2001, drivers and passengers are asked to carry proof of citizenship (excluding voters' registration cards) and to have it ready to hand to Customs/Immigrations agents upon request.
Proof of citizenship is a valid passport or birth certificate. A driver's license is not considered proof of citizenship. Dogs and cats are allowed to travel across borders with certification from veterinarians identifying the animal and proof of current vaccination against rabies. (Horses can cross at the truck crossing at Blaine when called in advance). Items that are prohibited from entry are most food items containing seeds or pits, potatoes, most live plants (some nurseries provide paperwork for Customs), bulbs and seeds.
